How to Overcome the Fear of Change
Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything. George Bernard Shaw
Managing in a time of transition is very demanding. It requires an awareness and understanding of the causes and impact of change on the organisation and its people Guiding an organisation in a time of rapid and turbulent change means business leaders need to accept that whatever made their company successful in the past may not in the future.
Managers are often faced with the challenge of motivating employees through the difficult but inevitable process of change. Individuals respond differently to the prospect of change and often react to change by resisting or avoiding it or blaming others for the change. Leaders and managers can help individuals understand their own reactions and consider how they can contribute positively to change
If change is truly inevitable and a necessity to survival, fear may be more likely to be based on “failure to change”, rather than “change”. We can all learn how to embrace change enthusiastically and creatively. When we come from a place of non-negotiable self worth and trust, we are able to tap into inner resources, take risks, push past limitations, and forge ahead. The unknown is perceived as a challenging, exciting adventure. Change becomes something not to fear but an instinct worth embracing with confidence and self-trust.
